Women in Music Columbus Announces 2013 Mary Lane Memorial Violin Competition Winner!

Women in Music Columbus (WMC) announced on Saturday, October 26, 2013, that Spencer Sharp, 16 (Morrow, OH) is the winner of the 2013 Mary Lane Memorial Violin Competition.

The competition took place in the Huntington Recital Hall at Capital University in Bexley. The Mary Lane Memorial Violin Competition is an annual competition for violin students (ages 16-24) who reside and/or take lessons in Central Ohio. The winner will receive a $3,000 award, generously donated by the late Dr. Tom Lesher, in memory of his violin teacher, Mary Lane.

Judges for the competition were Christopher Lape, Elizabeth Fisher and Heidemarie Traylor.

Mr. Sharp is a 10th Grade Homeschooled student who has performed solo concerts in China, Austria, South Korea, and Spain, as well as throughout the United States. He has soloed with symphonies in multiple states, and has won more than 20 Young Artist competitions in the past 3 years. Spencer has been praised for his “dynamic performance coupled with deep musical sensitivity”, and has performed solo at Carnegie Hall twice. Sharp currently studies violin with Dr. Won-Bin Yim (CCM).

Sharp has been invited to perform at WMC’s Annual Winners Recital on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Huntington Recital Hall at Capital University in Bexley. The recital will include performances by members of Women in Music Columbus, as well as the winner of the Mary Lane Memorial Violin Competition, Spencer Sharp.
